UAE Crude Exports Hold Firm Through Q3

Through the third quarter, the UAE’s crude export program has continued to show the steadiness that refiners across Asia and beyond associate with the country’s grades. For trading counterparties that consistency matters as much as price: it shapes how term supply is planned, how spot cargoes are priced and how quickly a transaction can move from enquiry to loading.

What keeps UAE crude flows steady

Several structural factors support the reliability of UAE crude supply, whatever the movements of a single quarter.

  • Established export grades. Murban, Upper Zakum, Das and Umm Lulu are well known to refiners, with assays and handling characteristics that buyers already understand.
  • Export routes. The Habshan–Fujairah pipeline allows crude to be loaded at Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman, outside the Strait of Hormuz, alongside the terminals inside the Gulf.
  • Transparent pricing. Murban futures trade on ICE Futures Abu Dhabi, giving the market a visible benchmark for the grade.
  • Policy-led production. Output is set within OPEC+ agreements, so changes tend to be signalled in advance rather than arriving unannounced.

What steady supply means for buyers

Reliable availability does not remove the need for careful structuring. A buyer still has to agree the grade and its specification, the quantity and tolerance, the loading window, the Incoterm, the payment mechanism and the independent inspection that will confirm quality and quantity before a cargo is committed.

Reliable supply is the starting point of a trade, not the end of the work. The transaction still has to be structured.

Questions worth settling early

  1. Which grade and assay suit the refinery’s configuration?
  2. Is the requirement for term supply, spot cargoes or both?
  3. Which loading terminal and laycan suit the destination and the freight?
  4. What inspection and documentation will the buyer’s bank and customs require?
